Safeguarding
Greenmount Primary School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all our children in school. We believe that pupils have a right to learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse; where staff are vigilant for signs of any pupil in distress and are confident about applying safeguarding processes to avert and alleviate any such problems.
If you have a concern about the welfare or safety of a child at our school please speak to:
| Designated Safeguarding Lead and Headteacher | Mr D Griffith |
| Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Headteacher | Miss C Kunce |
| Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and EYFS/KS1 Leader | Miss E Fishwick |
You can also contact the the Designated Governor for Child Protection (Mrs Angie Hobson) or the Chair of Governors (Mr Roger Holt), if you have any concerns about child protection procedures or issues in our school. Contact details are available from the school office.
Safeguarding is about ensuring that everyone is safe from harm – safe from bullying, safe from people who could abuse, safe from discrimination or harassment – and that we all feel safe in our environment.
We aim to take a proactive approach and want to work with families to offer support where we can or signpost to other agencies who may be able to offer support. This is known as Early Help. If you have any concerns, you can approach your child's class teacher, a member of the PS3 Team or the Head Teacher who will be pleased to help.
Every half term we share useful safeguarding information on our newsletter and every week we share up to date online safety advice (also via our newsletters).
Parents should be aware that the school will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff have no alternative but to follow Bury Safeguarding Partnership's Procedures and inform Social Services of their concern.
Where a child is absent from school for more than 10 days without permission or explanation, the school will follow Bury Council's Procedures for "Children Missing in Education"

Greenmount Primary School is committed to the principles of safer recruitment and, as part of that, adopts recruitment procedures that help deter, reject and/or identify people who might abuse children. Safe recruitment processes are followed and all staff recruited to the school will be subject to appropriate identity, qualification and health checks.

We are part of the Operation Encompass project which supports children where domestic abuse has occurred.
Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day. This information will be shared on school days during the school term. When incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday or a Sunday, the police will contact the relevant school the following Monday.
A nominated member of school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to liaise with the police.
At Greenmount Primary our Key Adult is Mr Griffith (Miss Kunce in his absence). They are able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child or young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.
We always endeavour to offer the best support possible to our pupils and believe that Operation Encompass is beneficial and supportive for all concerned - children and families.
In signing up to Encompass the Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team:
- Have endorsed the Encompass Model and support the Key Adults in our school to fulfil the requirements of the Bury Encompass Protocol.
- Promote and implement Bury Encompass processes and use these in accordance with internal safeguarding children processes.
- Recognise the sensitive nature of the information provided and ensure that this is retained in accordance with the principles of data protection
More information about Operation Encompass can be found at: https://www.operationencompass.org/
